 The Volvo V40 comes with the same level of safety features as the other Volvo models, but is Volvo's smallest and most affordable wagon and sedan. Every vehicle comes with an extensive menu of airbags, including Inflatable Curtain (IC) head-protection airbags for front and rear passengers, side airbags for front passengers and the usual dual-stage front airbags. Additional crash protection for the Volvo V40 comes from whiplash-reducing front seats and seatbelt pre-tensioners. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard throughout the line, while stability control is available as part of the climate package. No crash tests have been performed on the V40, but the S40 merits a "good" rating in the 2006 2007 Volvo V40 tests carried out by IIHS for frontal offset crash. Included in the affordable price, the base Volvo V40 offers features such as automatic climate control and a CD player. There are numerous new individual features like power seats and leather trim, and option packages, such as a climate package, which includes stability, control and heated front seats.
Like all the Volvos in this new generation, the lines of the Volvo V40 are more curvaceous, their proportions more pleasing than those of the boxy Volvos of the not-so-distant past. The exterior design features a sporty, low hood that sweeps back in a wedge profile to a relatively high trunk. The side windows are fairly large, making the Volvo V40 appear bigger than it actually is. Volvo designers refined the basic look last year with better-integrated bumpers, dual headlights, clear-lens taillights, and re-shaped front fenders. Headlamp washers and wipers indicate this is an upscale car, and perform the useful function of wiping that dirty white film away on snow days. Inside, the 2006 2007 Volvo V40 won't be mistaken for an econobox, but neither will it be taken for a luxury car. We like the nylon material used for the roof liner better than the mouse fur used on many compact and mid-size cars. The top of the dash and the doors are covered in a nice soft plastic.
