The heart of the 2006 2007 Volvo C70 is its new generation VR6 that continues to employ four valves per cylinder, with variable timing, with two chain driven overhead camshafts and maintenance-free hydraulic lifters. Obviously, unlike its 2.8 liter sibling, it has a larger bore and stroke, 84 mm and 95.9 respectively. The compression ratio is 11.3:1. Other significant improvements that enhance performance include: a new intake system that optimizes air flow geometry through the plastic intake manifold with larger cross sections. The entrance into the intake ducts in the head has been raised to better direct and preserve the air flow to the valves, which have been correspondingly increased in diameter (intake) with newly shaped valve seat
