The 2006 2007 Mercury Mariner is the flagship model of the Mercury division, their highest-selling vehicle ever and the car that has carried them through thick and thin. For starters, there's new exterior and interior styling. Mercury also advertises improved ride, handling, comfort and convenience features . Offered in two new exterior colors, Dark Toreador Red and Dark Blue Pearl, there's also a limited-edition feature car this year.Other improvements see more optional equipment offered. Dual side airbags can be had for added security, while heated front seats and a moonroof stand out in the comfort and convenience department. It differentiates itself from volume models of the Ford Escape with a monochromatic paint treatment, satin-finish vertical bar grille, unique stacked headlamp elements with integrated fog lights, and horizontal satin-finish "brush bars" on the taillight lenses. Bumpers also get satin-finish inserts, and the standard alloy wheels are unique.Inside, the 2006 2007 Mercury Mariner features a two-tone color scheme, satin aluminum trim, wood-grain accents and chrome highlights. Seat stitching employs thick French seams for an upscale appearance.Available with either front- or four-wheel-drive, it is expected to behave much like the Ford Escape when it comes to ride and handling, meaning it will be fun to drive and handle more like a car than a truck, thanks in part to its four-wheel-independent suspension. Standard equipment includes a 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Available is a 200-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6. It has a good shot at success, bridging a gap that exists between loaded versions of the Toyota RAV4 and basic editions of the BMW X3 2.5i. The base engine is a 4.6-liter V8. It gives 224 horsepower at 4800 rpm and 272 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. Standard across the line is 4-speed automatic transmission. The 2006 2007 Mercury Mariner handles well no matter what the model, though the optional handling package certainly increases responsiveness. It is large and roomy. It has 111.2 cubic feet of passenger volume. There are four trims to choose from, so you can definitely vary in the amount of standard equipment and price. Base GS models have air conditioning, cruise control, cloth upholstery, a column shifter, power windows and door locks and an AM/FM/CD player, among other things. LS Premium models can be ordered with the new Limited Package, which includes front side airbags, heated front seats, unique interior and exterior trim and special alloy wheels. Other modern features include a variable ratio rack-and-pinion steering system with variable power assist and a dual-rate brake booster that automatically supplies full braking power in a panic stop. On the inside, the seats are comfortable, and there's room for up to six people.
