In-line 3-cylinder type engine is standard for both the variants. Aluminum-alloy has been use to make their engine block /cylinder head. Displacement in (cc) is 995 for both MT and CVT. Insight MT has 67 hp at 5700 rpm as SAE net and 73 hp at 5700 with IMA. Insight CVT has 65 hp at 5700 rpm as SAE net and 71 hp at 5700 with IMA.
The torque generated by MT is 66 lb.-ft. at 4800 without IMA, and 79 lb.-ft. at 1500 rpm with IMA, however the torque generated by CVT is 65 lb.-ft. at 4800 without IMA, and 89 lb.-ft. at 2000 rpm with IMA. 72 x 81.5 in mm is the size of bore and stroke for both the models of Honda Insight. Compression ratio has been maintained at 10.8 : 1 and 10.3:1 respectively for the two. Some of the standard features found in both of 2006 2007 Honda Insight are Idle stop, front-wheel drive, and direct ignition system with immobilizer. A 5 speed manual transmission is available for Insight (MT) hence the name, and obviously the other model is Insight (CVT) due to continuously variable transmission.
